Coming in third is nothing to be ashamed of It's a nice accomplishment; however (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) isn't/wasn't she considered the favorite and arguably the greatest gymnast ever? Mary Lou Retton came out and stated she was the greatest gymnast ever. This is coming from Mary Lou herself So if you're the 'Greatest Ever' - how can coming in third be considered as a success? She had a nervous breakdown and had to stop competing in the middle of the games. Coming back to compete at all would be impressive, making the podium after everything she went through is quite an accomplishment.
