During late WWII, and for a short time thereafter, my Dad flew as a navigator, on a San Francisco-Honolulu link. The missions were US military, but they used Pan Am equipment. I don't recall specific references to dental fillings, but he often spoke of various metals picking up radio signals, but not being near any recognized "receiver."
When I was in my teens ... and, nothing was too great a sacrifice for beauty ... I would set my hair in metal-mesh "rollers," every night. He would often tease me about the number of radio stations that I was picking up.
