Sport climbing anyone? I thought it was a worthy addition to Olympic sports. A reasonable spread of countries are represented at the elite level and there is a mature international competition. The womens knockout phase was fun to watch, with a small level of tension and personal struggle. Janja Garnbrett is a superstar and performed on the night, wiping out the rest of the field in the boulder phase. I loved it. Second favourite only to the athletics. My two gripes though are the scoring system and combining all three events. While the scoring is exciting it seems incredibly unfair. For athletes placed in gold medal positions to then be relegated to no medal just because 1 other athlete does better seems a little unfair. Also I think in the next games when the speed and bouldering + lead are separated into two distinct events it will also be fairer. Atm it would be like having Elaine Thomson-Herah compete against Sifan Hassan over the 100mm, 5000m and 10000m combined to see who would come out on top. Very exciting event though, I look forward to seeing, hopefully, more coverage on our TVs.
