HBO Max wouldn’t let me pick up where I left off so I just quit halfway through. (Gotta love them streeeaaaming services!) And it’s just as well. This movie was not for me. The first ten minutes are so gratuitously gory and mean spirited that I lost interest almost instantly. Killing characters in sadistic ways for shock and “humor(?)” doesn’t increase the stakes or intensity it makes you stop caring because why invest in characters who may be offed without any emotion at any moment? And man, James Gunn’s sense of humor can be obnoxious AF. I am not looking forward to Guardians 3. I doubt Disney or Marvel will let Gunn get too gory, certainly not within the MCU phases. After watching Agent Carter, I like the idea of a hardboiled, noir version set in the 1930s or 50s. Well they’ll certainly keep the violence to a minimum. But James Gunn having full creative control is not a good thing in my opinion. His over indulgences go beyond the gore and violence. GotG Vol 2 had many of TSS flaws, only to a lesser degree.
