There's an early 70s tv-movie with a similar plot--Bradford Dillman and Shelley Winters.
There was a funny Oscars telecast where the sound department winner was going on and on and on--it seems to be a trait with the sound awards winners-they talk forever--and the camera cuts to Bates in the audience, frowning and shaking her head.
GOOD GOD NO. Funny enough I think Katey Sagal from "Married With Children" (which was like an edgier version of "Roseanne") could have been a good casting choice, she played a manipulative sociopath in "Sons of Anarchy"
