I am among the very few who prefer the newer version.
I was bored by the original. I am usually a great fan of Lon Chaney jr. and Claude Rains, but they were both given nothing to do. The horror elements also did not move me.
The newer version is over-the-top crazy, which was at least entertaining when I was watching it.
I think Werewolf of London, Universal's first werewolf movie, is better than The Wolf Man too. It also has a werewolf-on-werewolf fight in the climax, which I think inspired the remake's climax as well.
