The man is constantly stretching and reinventing himself, especially on stage, where he has not only taken on Tennessee Williams but William Shakespeare, as well. Work apparently keeps Pacino alive, and there is no harder work for an actor than the legitimate stage where you are judged every night and don't have to wait for the movie to premier to know what the audience thinks of you. He certainly doesn't need the money and long ago proved himself a brilliant artist. At an age when most of his contemporaries are slowing down or long retired, he seems as unstoppable as the Energizer Bunny.
I think he likes the craft but hates the business. He said as much when he came back to cinema after a four year break in the late 1980s.
