My central air system, no longer works and needs to be completely replaced, and it would cost me too much to fix it...
I have a portable unit, but it isn't very powerful... It does the trick on those warm Spring and Fall days, but isn't much use during the dog days of Summer... However, it does help to cool the house down at night, and it dehumidifies as well, allowing me to get almost 8 hours of sleep, each night, in June/July... During the day, I can use it as a cooling station for a bit, when I need it...
I also use several Fans throughout the house to create a "Wind Chill" effect...
3 months each year, of somewhat-suffering from the Summer heat isn't, so bad...
But I do wish I had central air again...
And hell, after being used to dealing with 90 degrees inside the house for most of the summer... I wouldn't have to set the thermostat in the lower 70 degrees like I would prefer either, I'd be more than happy with setting the thermostat at 80 degrees... Just for it to be 10 degree cooler than what I am dealing with now.
Thankfully, Fall is rapidly approaching, and the expected daily high temperatures are starting to drop, and will regularly be below 80 degrees within a week or two...
This is why I hate Summer so much... It's hard to stay cool... The Sun, The Heat, The Humidity, Technology, Electricity, and Money, and sometimes no breezes... It's too many variables working against you to succeed...
But during the Winter, all I have to do is put a heavy coat on, or wrap a blanket around me, if I need to...
A few years ago, on the coldest night of the year, the power went out, because the aged power-lines in my neighborhood disintegrated... It took the electric company a few hours to repair them... Meanwhile, the house got cold, fast... Climbing into bed with several blankets covering me, took care of that!
And people hate Snow? That's why they invented shovels. To move snow out of the way... But how does one get rid of the humidity when you're outside?
I'll take a cold Winter Night, everytime, over a Steamy Summer Day...
Thankfully, as I said, Fall is almost here... It's my favorite season. I love it, after dealing with the Dog Days Of Summer.
