Virtue signaling didn't exist, until someone came up with the term virtue signaling. Before that it was just called "doing what you thought was right." The truth is, we ALL virtue signal. ALL OF US. When you write a post saying you find virtue signaling annoying, that's YOU signaling a virtue you have. Wow, huh? Who woulda thunk it? Virtue signaling, to me, is just slacktivism for the sake of drawing attention to how morally superior you are without actually impacting anything. Example: The people boohooing and the song "Baby It's Cold Outside" around the holidays each year. I could name you 10 other songs off the top of my head that get played regularly that are more sexist. Cancelling a 60-year-old song only played at the holidays does nothing for women or addressing rape culture, but the people complaining about it can feel good about it without actually confronting anyone. YOU just virtue signaled. You came on here and told us all that you believe something is stupid, in essence telling us a virtue that you hold dear. Coming on here and posting how cancelling a 60-year-old song only played at the holidays does nothing for women or addressing rape culture is something you believe that you felt you needed to tell us about yourself. Not taking into consideration that you coming on here to do so ALSO does nothing to "cancel" cancel culture or virtue signaling. And you HAVENT actually confronted anyone either, since this is the internet after all. YOU just virtue signaled. Congratulations.
