Actually the concept of virtue signaling has existed long before the term.

There's a difference between doing the right thing from the goodness of your heart vs doing it for attention and praise.

Of course the concept existed before the term, but the term is some new thing that is being used to denigrate the concept.

And what's really the difference between doing something from goodness or for praise if the end result is the same? If a poor kid gets fed either way what difference does it make to the poor kid?

My point is that EVERYONE virtue signals because EVERYONE has virtues. When someone says "I hate virtue signaling!" That's them signaling their virtue that they hate virtue signaling. We all do it whether you call it that or not.
