Have you asked him whether he wants to change or wants things to get better? There are people who like wallowing in their own misery. That get a twisted pleasure from it. This is a real thing.
Is he the kind of person who you can even sit down and have a discussion with? Based on what you have said it seems not.
I want to help, but I don't know how you would get around this without him getting annoyed and angry every time and just walking away. He seems very stubborn.
I avoided my dad until today actually. I just acted like nothing happened lol.. because its more a pain to argue and bring up hurt feelings. But its funny because recently I wanted to see what was up with some family I haven't seen in a while. A lot of pathetic people on my father's side. One of my uncles is an alcoholic and drug addict...he's also just extremely paranoid. He told me one of my other uncle's approached him and said he was worried about him but then said my other uncle had dementia or something. He hasn't seen his daughters in years and years... Also said some racist crap, my dad is racist too. Anyway, my cousin is in rehab or some in patient thing..he keeps getting in trouble. He got divorced, idk if he sees his kids. But his mom, my aunt might be the most normal one. Even she has been married 3 times or some ridiculous amount lmao. Another aunt still hates me and won't talk to me. I'd honestly kill myself if I end up like some of these people, specifically my dad, uncle or cousin. Terrible fathers to their children tbh. /end rant xD
