A remake of Lethal Weapon today would feature one black older female cop and one younger Lesbian (or possibly trans) Latino cop. I mean yeah there is that pressure by the studios to go super "woke" (god, I hate that word). And the likelihood of them doing a female lead Lethal Weapon reboot is probably higher than them doing a male lead reboot. Personally I'm all for more female lead films. I'm all for trans men or women leading more films. However, I think when they try to do it while rebooting another franchise it just comes across too forced. Like the Ocean's 8 movie or Ghostbusters. I still think there is room out there to continue or reboot this franchise, but it has to be done the right way. If they cast the wrong actors it's gonna feel too generic. Smith and Hardy are both solid actors who have strong fanbases. I think their fans would show up for the film combined with general audiences for the nostalgia. Now if they really wanted to do one with female leads they should introduce 2 female cop characters in the Smith/Hardy reboot. Then if the film is a success and those characters are a success they can do a spinoff focused on those two female characters... but one step at a time. You're weird.
