I have no idea why anyone thinks "The Great Escape" is "great".
It's not pathetic, but it's one of the dullest war movies ever made, and certainly pales in comparison to Stalag 17.
It's mostly because of the stereotypical Hollywood characters. McQueen was just doing his usual superiority complex brat character that he always does. The others weren't much better. They weren't relatable, except maybe Garner and Coburn. Their characters salvaged the movie to be 5/10, but that's all it was. It was just dull.
Now lie to me and tell me you could stay awake through the whole thing and watch it in one non stop showing. I dares you. I double dog dares you.
