The Lost Boys - 8/10. I'd say it's better than Fright Night, though I have yet to see Near Dark. I have yet to see the sequels but heard they were trash. It's rare to see someone that puts it on par with them. First Time Viewings: Fright Night Part 2 (1988) - 6.5/10 Fright Night (2011) - 7/10 30 Days of Night (2007) - 8/10 Repeat Viewings: The Purge (2013) - 6.5/10 The Purge: Anarchy (2014) - 7.5/10 The Purge: Election Year (2016) - 7/10 The First Purge (2018) - 7/10 Drive (2011) - 8/10 I apologize for such a late response. It has been a rather busy week for me and I haven't had the time to sit down and compose my thoughts.
Possibly my disappointment with The Lost Boys lowered my expectations to the extent that I was able to enjoy the sequels all the more.
I am a great fan of Fright Night. It is a perfect homage as well as a send-up to old Hammer style horror films as well as a quintessentially 80s urban horror story. I haven't seen the sequel or remake but don't have much expectations. Perhaps they will not suck.
I watched Drive when it came out and everyone on Film General was raving about it. I sat through the whole thing and for the life of me I could not find much to appreciate in it. It just doesn't do it for me. I vastly prefer The Driver. No worries. Fright Night 2 is actually free on YouTube after being so obscure on physical media if you are curious; it's not nearly as good as the first but it's decent. The remake was also a solid reimagining of the original, very modernized but enjoyable. It's okay if you didn't like Drive as well. It's a very artsy film but one I appreciate.
