It's not high art, that's for sure. But it's a blast. Go in with zero expectations and you should have fun. I think Renner carries it and makes it a legit supernatural action/comedy. With a bad actor, it's probably unwatchable. When we were talking about Brotherhood of the Wolf being this crazy genre mashup that somehow totally works, and then this because of the time, period, and the source material, and then also before with how Van Helsing was such a waste of potential; I thought of The Brothers Grimm. A movie called The Brothers Grimm with that cast and directed by Terry Gilliam should have been great... but it's an unfocused mish mash of genre, tone, and muddled characterization. I think Gilliam was meddled with by the Weinsteins (what a shock) when Dimension took over production duties. Shame. Also, I'm sure I've gone on and on about this in the past, but the best version of all the universal monsters in one thing is Penny Dreadful. That show could have been so good if it was allowed to be after the 2nd season. I was just about to bring up The Brothers Grimm! Yeah it sucks, like really sucks. And with that cast and that director it should've been amazing. We keep talking about Penny Dreadful, but it's true. It was fantastic and should've kept going. There was a lot more story to tell, even if it meandered.
