Was the Hayes Code a good or a bad thing?

The Hayes Code did not limit creativity- creativity is the ability to develop new solutions to get around limits. Creativity is tested with limits. Removing limits does not increase creativity.

And for those of you who believe censorship is bad- do you support movies involving child pornography and bestiality? After all, that is censorship too (wouldn't want to limit your "creativity"!)
