He use to play in stuff that just isn't my type of movie, but he has recently done more interesting movies and gone outside his typical romantic comedy stuff. He has done some stuff besides that in the past (Extreme Measures, for example), but not very often.

Best performance - Florence Foster Jenkins
I just rewatched About a Boy recently and I guess that's why he's been on my mind.
Movies like that and Notting Hill just seem effortless but to be honest I haven't seen his more recent films.
