"The Godfather" is highly revered, but at the time it must been a huge risk for studios. Keep in mind: Marlon Brando was a washed up has been Al Pacino was a relative nobody (Coppolla had to fight the studio to get him cast) Coppolla was mostly known for directing skin flicks prior to Godfather2 skin flicks in the early '60s means he was mostly known for directing skin flicks? What about the 4 other movies he directed during the 10 years in between his last skin flick and The Godfather?
