The 80s and 90s had some really good sitcoms. However, I think they were lacking when it came to one hour dramas.

Crime, detective, courtroom and police procedural type shows exploded in the 80s and 90s with a lot of them still being popular today. There was also X-Files, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Quantum Leap, etc. I guess TV drama was elevated when cable stations such as HBO got more into the mix in the 00s.
