Just watched it for the first time just now. Interesting question... I lean towards the side of leaving it as it is. You can still pursue the quarterback and put a hand on him to make sure he doesn't do this without getting flagged, and it's a subtle enough move that it doesn't make it the unnecessary roughness call much of a risk. This obviously worked incredibly well, but it's not something I'd think to work that well ever again. I think it's tough enough on defensive players when dealing with running QBs. It's like starting to signal for a fair catch, then running with the ball. When I saw this play I immediately thought they'd come up with a rule in the offseason. It's hard enough on defenders these days without QBs pulling shit like this because they know defenders are afraid to get flagged or tossed out. It should just be a dead ball where the incident occurred.
