7-343 at stumps. England tried hard in the field but had little to show for it. The fielders let down the bowlers badly which met, in spite of excellent bowling from Wood and Robinson, a respectable second was all England could manage on a day they needed to dominate to get back into the game. This is looking like the feeblest England outfit since the mid 90s. As a matter of fact 1994-95 is a pretty good comparative. Good bowlers in Malcolm, Fraser and Gough creating scores of chances for inept fielders to put down while their batters consistently struggled to make 200. Going to be a long summer for the tourists. I think the batting in 94/95 is better than this lot, Root excluded. Gooch, Atherton, Stewart, Thorpe, Hick and Ramprakash should’ve gone a lot better than what they did with the bat, but you’re right about the fielding - not the nimblest group I’ve ever laid eyes on.
