Black Panther is going to turn out to be a better film than Thor Ragnarok. There is a lot more to unpack in Black Panther thematically. It's filled with mind-blowing concepts. - A technologically advanced civilization in the heart of Africa.
- A society / warrior culture where women play a significant role.
- Mercenary forces that are trying to exploit the wealth of an African nation.
- A xenophobic society that employs subterfuge and murder to protect its secrets.
- A nation that appears to seamlessly fuse advanced technology and tribal/ritual customs.
And, for the second time, Marvel has arranged for a black man to be able to stride defiantly through a hail of gunfire and emerge unharmed - the irony is not lost on me. I enjoyed the brief sequences of Killmonger's extraction of Klaue from Federal custody - very professional. Jordan is either going to crush the Killmonger roll or be the weakest link. I'm sure that with Ryan Cooglar at the helm, Jordan will be great. The two seem to work great with each other if Creed and Fruitvale station are any indication.
