Right off the top of my head, I'll give best acting performance to two people from Midnight Mass - Hamish Linklater and Samantha Sloyan. Linklater's Father Paul is the kind of nuanced character that typically is left out of the horror genre. His voice, his facial expressions, his knowing embrace of what he knows is a bastardized version of what he has always believed in, yet he plows forward as if he can somehow redeem both himself and everyone else from the horrors to come, it's masterful stuff that builds to a truly gripping climax. And Samantha Sloyan, jesus christ. The old trope is that if you truly hate the character, then credit the actor. Well, Sloyan's dogmatic, ultimate-manipulator, religious zealot makes my blood boil even today, months after watching the show. I can't say I've seen her in much but she gives a brilliant villainous turn. Here's my cultured list compared to Klaw's thoughts:
