Movie: I guess "The Father", with Anthony Hopkins TV: probably La Casa de Papel (The Money Heist), a Spanish series on Netflix. Completely over the top but very entertaining. Honourable mentions to The Squid Game, to Midnight Mass and to Lupin. Sports: in a year with the Olympics and the Euros, surprisingly my favourite event was the US Open, especially the women's tournament. Books: A sci-fi trilogy by John Scalzi: The Collapsing Empire, The Consuming Fire and The Last Emperox. I read all three in quick succession. They are not going to become classics of the genre, but they were very entertaining. Thanks for reminding me that the event I mentioned in my OP, my so-called "favorite sporting moment of the year", happened at the Euros, not the World Cup (which didn't take place this year). Now I'm seriously looking at my other choices and questioning them. What's the difference? A bunch of European sissies roll around on the ground acting like they've been shot, the whole thing is decided by 'penalty kicks' and nobody in America cares. (I stopped watching the final went it went to PKs.)
