I love this writer...the later novels. The movie version of American Pastoral was a complete failure for me since I LOVED the novel so much. After reading it, I asked myself "How can anyone write such complex novel and have it come off so well" (This novel won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction.) To me, this novel is more like a series of telescoping mosaics that relate a series of events rather than telling you a story directly. I saw The Human Stain this weekend and loved it totally!!! This movie comes much closer to demonstrating Roth's writing style than Indignation did...much more complex and full of surprises. Yet, the movie received only cool reviews and no notable film awards. Maybe I stand alone about Philip Roth, but I think he should be American's next Nobel Prize winner for literature. One can forget about Goodbye, Columbus or Portnoy's Complaint when thinking of the later Philip Roth because they don't reach the level of his later novels---notably the Nathan Zuckerman novels: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Zuckerman#List_of_Zuckerman_Novels To great surprise, I just discovered that many of his novels are printed in LARGE PRINT---the only way I can read a printed book due to my corneal disease. I just ordered a couple of these large print paperback books and will be looking forward to reading a real book again soon. Wow, it has been a while since I could do that
