Philip Roth developed a great deal during his career. I loved the novel American Pastoral, had no desire to see a movie based on it. The book's brilliance is in its writing. It's kind of like trying to adapt Scott Fitzgerald. These authors wrote novels that were too, hmm...

Where's Max Perkins when you need him? As to Philip Roth, he's come a long way since Portnoy. It's nice to see that this has been noticed. He's never quite got the praise from the critics that he deserved.
