They probably just found a reasonable way to bring him back and went with it, and William Hurt's in no position to pass up work, so...When all is said and done, I would be interested in hearing a more detailed breakdown from Feige about what they were planning originally and how much that changed based on the major success of something like Guardians, the sudden acquisition of Spiderman, and of course the less performance of Hulk. It's not a coincidence that the biggest mysteries like The Leader, are still from phase 1.
