What an amazing review, London. I'm not sure I want to see the film now, though something tells me I have to just to review all your interesting comments. Just one note: according to my research, Rivera was a part of the Federal Arts Project, so is it possible that his work was funded by them - or does the film specify that it wasn't? Anyway, very interesting comments! A lot to think about. And I guess a lot (or not) to see. In the film the mural was entirely paid for by Rockefeller, and Rivera gets pilloried by the comrades for prostituting himself to an arch-capitalist. It may be that in actuality Rockefeller routed the funds through the FAP, but if so I do not believe that was mentioned, though I may have missed it. As I said, lots of scenes are frenetic with different groups talking, and what with playing the double game of "identify the famous person" and "spot the famous actor in a cameo" things could get missed by old Limey with less than 100% hearing. And perhaps Rivera did other work that the FAP supported. I shall posts no more reviews if they deter good people from watching movies I enjoyed.
