I had a similar experience. I was in a bookstore at a mall and noticed a guy lurking amidst the shelves near the back, and recognized him as a local talk show host whose show I liked. I'd always felt that he was a shy person, plus he was quite pale. I suspected that he might've been agoraphobic, that he avoided leaving home. In fact, in an interview with Bill Murray, at the end, Murray joked with him saying he looked pale, that he needed to get out more. He looked sheepish when I noticed that I was looking at him. I decided not to bother him in any way despite that I'd liked to have told him I enjoyed his show. I figured he didn't wish to be approached. I think it was enough that he probably realized that I recognized him. You sound like a subtle person, like me. In person, I'm shy; online, I'm bolder. I think I use being online as some kind of outlet.
