Interesting opinion on this from the acting chair of LGBT+ Lib Dems: m.huffpost.com/uk/entry/16095906Probably a fair assessment, though I still find it suspicious he resigns now when all this had kinda blown over a bit. The way it comes across is that when he finally made his "No problem with the gays here!" statement, he was obviously lying. Once the election was over he had time to think about it and the choice was to continue lying about his views for the rest of his political career... or quit. I wonder was he pressured to quit though by his party and he used the Christian excuse to save face? As I pointed out he was at odds economically with many senior Lib Dems. They might have stood by him pre-election but leapt on him after the party's weakish performance in the election. Although maybe one of the points used against him was his Christianity might have turned off voters. Suppose this is just idle speculation on my part though
