I agree completely with mikef6 on the "dated" question, but one reason you may feel that, Joe, is that From Russia with Love is more of a general "spy story" than Goldfinger, which is more specifically "Bondian." That is to say, if you had any spy in FRwL, it would still work. (And I don't mean that as a criticism: the book is my favorite of the Bond books, and I think the movie is the best Bond movie.) As this website put it: Thus FRwL may be, in effect, more generally timeless, whereas Goldfinger is bound by its time and place--and its series. (Not my reaction to the films, but perhaps a reason why...)
