OT: Mysteries of Lisbon

It was probably me. It's one of my top 5 films from this century and I think it's an astonishing masterpiece. It's basically a combination of Visconti's opulent, period production design, Mizoguchi's elegant moving camera, and a labyrinthine narrative that's quite unique to itself. It's just one of the most hypnotic, absorbing cinematic experiences I've ever had.

When I watched it I actually did it all in one sitting, which perhaps add to the experience of being absorbed into its unique world and aesthetic. That said, it was originally written as a TV mini-series so there's nothing wrong with watching it in multiple parts either. I did the same with Bela Tarr's 7.5 hour Satantango. Both were pretty unforgettable.
