That wouldn't make it better. That would make it just like every other (slightly lame) happy ending. Yeah, what Darabont gave us is a major downer, but I think I prefer it this way. It makes you connect with Jane and the agony of what he's done in a way you wouldn't if the marines steam in saving the day
