Maybe it's not a coincidence. 
Bigfoot sightings and other strange phenomenon often take place in areas where UFOs have been sighted.
Some researchers believe that Bigfoot and UFOs are interdimensional and come from a parallel universe and possess the ability to travel between dimensions. Hence, there's never any evidence of their existence beyond numerous eyewitness accounts and blurred photographs.
It's just a theory, of course.
If Bigfoot exists, I believe in the more "rational" scientific theory, that these creatures are an undiscovered animal species and are of this world.
UFOs could be anything from secret military aircraft to holographic images to visitors from outer space (or inner earth) to 1001 other possibilities.
While I take many of these theories with a grain of salt, one thing I do believe in is the unknown. People will continue to have encounters with UFOs and strange creatures (cryptids) but we may never find any real answers as to what it is we're encountering. Perhaps it was meant to be that way.
