The MCU really isn't big on secret identities though. Outside Daredevil, I can't think of any other current MCU character that maintains a secret identity. I think they realized that maintaining a secret identity in this new age of electronic information is just too hard to maintain. People would constantly need to be dumbed down for this to work.
So I think they're allowing more people in on Peter's secret so more people can cover up for him when he needs to do stuff. It makes more sense in a modern setting where we actually consider side characters decently intelligent beings (unlike Lois Lane unable to see through a pair of glasses disguise).
Tony was completely ready to announce Peter's identity in a live press conference.
