The "pig farmer" thing was always more of a joke than anything. I raise about a dozen feeder pigs each year but haven't had a breeding hog operation in over a decade. I've always raised beef cattle, chickens, corn and winter wheat as far as raising anything for market is concerned. I raise a little of almost everything else just for personal use. I killed the groundhog yesterday on my mother's farm that my girls have been helping to run since my dad, their granddad, died a few years ago. Her farm is a diversified poultry operation (chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese), a small peach and pecan orchard, and about 25 acres of cotton. Groundhogs can fuck up a cotton field in a short time. Whatever, dude. I just hate killing anything. In 2008 I shot and killed two rattlesnakes, but I didn't enjoy it. In his case, we can't blame him even if we were vegetarians. I always wanted to be vegetarian but didn't have the capacity to sacrifice meat eating. I don't complain about those who raise animals because after-all I enjoy meat. So it will be extremely hypocritical to complain against those who raise poultry or animals for meat. Only rights I believe I have is in regards to objecting against unnecessary violence that some animals are subjected to before they are killed.
