It's the most popular Firefox alternative to my knowledge. Pale Moon's website is here... www.palemoon.org/
It's kinda it's own browser but it's basically like Firefox from a while ago with it's interface etc.
but for the more casual PC user... i would not be surprised if you never heard of it as you pretty much got Microsoft's (i.e. Internet Explorer/Edge) and then Chrome/Firefox for the most popular browsers on the PC and after that you start to get into the more obscure browsers which won't have too much market share. but i would imagine for the more obscure browsers that Pale Moon is one of the more known ones.
but with all of that said... it's safer for me to recommend either Chrome or Firefox to the common person since they are popular (i would lean towards Firefox as it's lighter on system resources, especially RAM usage). Firefox used to be a major player in the browser market years ago but Chrome has become the clear dominate browser for a while now.
