Are you really going to tell me "Disorder" was improved by Hannett's screwing with it? My God, the live version on "Still" blows away Hannett's effects-laden project. When you have a great song, just let the song be! Hannett never learned that basic rule of production. "Disorder" is a genuine contender for greatest debut album opening track ever recorded. Probably the leading contender (Neubauten's "Tanz Debil" springs to mind though). You can argue that the background effects aren't needed, but I think they don't detract too much. I'm not sure what you could do to Disorder to ruin it, it's that good a track. But I'd also argue that the version on "Still" is when the band have already been informed by Hannett's production, and effectively altered their style and sound forever. The punky attitude of a year or two earlier has gone.
