Dana was opera trained prior to entering films. He did sing in one picture -- as one of the happy Russian peasants during the town picnic sequence just before the Germans invade in THE NORTH STAR in 1943.
He did not squawk about being dubbed in STATE FAIR, stating that it was giving work to someone else who may have needed the job.
I did hear him sing one time (at the insistence of host Max Showalter) at a local theater fundraiser before a showing of BEST YEARS -- and very good he was. I got an invite to Max's home afterwards and got to spend quality time with Mr. Andrews -- very nice guy.
We talked at length about his film for Elia Kazan -- BOOMERANG! -- which had a special family connection to me. My grandfather was an extra as a member of the jury in the trial scenes where Dana played a thoughtful and courageous state's attorney (based on an actual murder case).
