We already know that Steppenwolf is the main villain so I prefer that they don't show too much and spoil things.
You never see the light of day
Till it goes away
You never want a drink of water
Till the well runs dry
You never miss a real good thing
People often take things for granted and don't really appreciate things until they're gone. Superman had been saving lives for 18 months. Now that he's gone and no one is around to save people like Superman did, obviously the world is going to miss Superman and is going to remember how great it was when Superman was around to save people.
But that doesn't mean JL won't be a great movie too. LeBron James will never be as great as Michael Jordan, but that doesn't mean LeBron James isn't an all-time great player.
Another problem is the DCEU is also trying to assure fans that there will be humor in it by showing the funny moments because they know fans were upset with how depressing and dour BvS was. Voice overs in any trailer is always an advantage and I think it could have benefitted from for Steppenwolf. It's especially useful if you don't actually want to show him in the trailer, make sure his presence is felt, while it can also briefly explain plot points while opening questions for the audience to wonder about before they see the film.
Look at the trailer for The Avengers. It worked well because while it may be another alien invasion film, it also tells a story that's interesting as each member need to learn to get along with each other and even shows snippets of them fighting each other, so when you watch it, it makes you wonder before you see the film, how will they resolve their problems before facing the real enemy. It doesn't rely on the money shots to tell its story.
Okay that really bears no relevance to the film. That's just your opinion and how you look at it in the universe, but outside to the audience, we haven't really seen Superman save many people outside of just Man of Steel with Metropolis really. So it makes it hard for us to really care for him but also, it feels unearned, especially when Batman has transitioned from the Punisher bent on killing him to wanting to best friends and inspire others to be like Superman, all because they both have mothers with the same name.
Opinion, as usual dumbass, learn it.
