outside to the audience, we haven't really seen Superman save many people outside of just Man of Steel with Metropolis really. You obviously didn't watch MoS. The Avengers only saved New York city. Since the Chitauri had no superpowers at all, they were no threat to the rest of the world or even the rest of the country so eventually the U.S. military would've arrived in New York city and defeated the powerless Chitauri. But Superman saved the entire planet. The military wouldn't have been able to destroy the World Engine if Superman hadn't destroyed the World Engine and saved the planet. I can see why the world has so much reverence for the person who saved 7 billion humans from extinction. Good luck trying to convince anyone here you didn't know there was an Avengers film when it was the most talked about film at the time of its release. I thought all the talk about an Avengers movie was about another movie adaptation of the 1960s TV series starring Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg. The only superhero movies I was looking forward to in 2012 were The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises.
