100% agree. Unfortunately, he will return as a villain at first. I'm still wondering how we're supposed to get the more traditional Superman out of this. He'll return as a villain, justifying all the fear and hatred the public ever had about him, and all the fears and doubts he's ever had about himself. If anything, this should make him EVEN MORE depressed, distant, and angsty. My theory is that him as a villain for the movie was the original choice, but upon the backlash of BvS, they decided that he will come back brainwashed for one big fight before he becomes himself again. Basically, he'll be Hawkeye in the original Avengers. Not sure how else they bring him back otherwise without making it the entire focus of the film. If Steppenwolf and/or Darkseid brings him back it is part of their greater plan and can fit into the rest of the narrative. Bruce just sticking him into the Kryptonian ship and hoping for the best would be really anti-climactic.
