The internal strife? I can't say, but if you watch the SDCC Trailer, Batman says "Superman inspired people to be the best versions of themselves." (Or something like that) and that was in NO WAY shown in either of the Superman films...so either that is something they are establishing in JL (some sort of news montage with people doing acts of kindness in Supe's name or something.) OR, they are just retconning and hoping we don't notice...which potentially helps with the psychological problems.
