Christianity teaches that only humans have immortal souls; no pets allowed in heaven.
Eastern philosophies are different; reincarnation in many forms from insect to human, until Nirvana, the cessation of the cycle of life, death and rebirth.
As an atheist, I don't believe in god or heaven, but somehow still hope that there is some kind of an afterlife where loved ones and beloved pets are waiting to be reunited. And yes, I know - that doesn't make sense.
I volunteer with a non-profit cat rescue organization. My specialty is bottle-feeding baby kittens that have been separated from their mothers. Kittens are my bliss.
