Yes that seems to be a point of some online contention. Saw some speculation threads on this in TMDB and the like. It's super weird and creepy to do that, but in the bitter end it's a film aimed at children. Reminds me a bit of Lucas taping Fishers breast so that they would not move around but that made sense and was not so obvious and creepy.
