In 2013 I heard the New York Philharmonic under the baton of their principle conductor Alan Gilbert in an outdoor amphitheater in Aspin, Colorado. I don't think the acoustics in the best concert halls can match the thin mountain air.
Last New Year's Eve, the Performance Santa Fe (NM) orchestra and chorus gave an otherworldly performance of The Ninth (Beethoven: Symphony #9 in d). What a way to wrap up one year and start another. Wow.
