A delightfully charming little seen British B Classic is Small Hotel (1957). This wonderful gem stars 72 year old Gordon Harker in the lead role, a popular and talented actor who began his career in the early 20s . Albert, (Harker) a crafty old waiter in a country hotel known as The Jolly Fiddler. City management decides that he is too old for the job and will be replaced by a hard-nosed young waitress named Miss Mallet... Twenty years after appearing on stage in this lively play written by Rex Frost , this was to be Harker's penultimate film, he reprises the role of a belligerent hotel waiter having to use all his wit and cunning to save his job. Harker is in excellent, typically jovial form, dominating comic proceedings with his polished expertise... The film was the debut for Janet Munro...
