HUGE controversy when it aired - people either loved it or hated it with a passion. I even remember many "water cooler" moments at work with guys just crying with laughter the day after Al's antics. We all shared in the experience that marriage was not some blissful existence it was cracked up to be.
So many classic episodes I wouldn't even know where to start. Al imagining himself a fantasy private eye. Al and Peg break up. Al becomes a security guard at the school after losing his job. Al gets glasses and can see for the first time in a decade. The many family vacation episodes. I could probably name two dozen episodes that were just brilliant in their subversive hilarity.
For me, one stands alone as my favorite: The two part Xmas episode with Sam Kinison as Al's guardian angel, was just riotously funny from start to finish. I watch it every year at Xmas time, along with other Xmas classics: National Lampoons Xmas vacation, the Grinch, Charlie Brown, A Christmas Story, and so on.
It has become a tradition, required viewing Xmas classic.
