Fidrych was a junkballer with nothing amazing except control. And his routine. I remember him in 1976. All anyone could talk about was the pitcher for Detroit who talked to baseballs. Fernandomania was nothing compared to The Bird. Hitters would have figured him out, even without the injuries, but he was a hoot. you read the book 'the wrong stuff' by bill lee? funny stuff. i think bill walton copied his whole wild hippy act from bill....
