I forgot about Powlus. The way I remember the quote was "It's not a question of whether Powlus will win a Heisman but how many." It was after his first game as a freshman, a good game against an awful Northwestern team. He wasn't a bad college QB, 7,602 yards, 52 TDs. Playing for decent to mediocre Notre Dame teams. But I don't think he ever got a Heisman vote or a play in the NFL. He was heavily recruited coming out of high school in Pennsylvania coal country back when that meant something (he went to Berwick, which was always in the USA Today's high school Top 25 back then). Beano always said good things about Notre Dame, Penn State, and Pitt. |
